Bloodwork is an important diagnostic tool that reveals health information about patients.
With blood tests, our team can analyze aspects about your pet’s health that we simply cannot assess from visual examinations. No need to worry because bloodwork is one of the most frequent procedures that we perform here at Central Animal Hospital. If you have any further inquiries about our bloodwork services not provided on this page, please do not hesitate to reach out to us at 250-376-7208 for more information.
The short answer is no. Most pets will feel as if they are receiving a vaccination or any other injection. In fact, anesthesia is not needed when drawing blood because it inflicts little to no discomfort on patients.
Bloodwork is a routine part of veterinary medicine for a good reason. They are usually performed before certain procedures or before starting your pet on medications to assess if they are appropriate candidates. Blood tests during wellness exams can also help us determine if your pet is suffering from any undiagnosed health conditions, or if any changes are needed to their ongoing medical plans/therapies. For pets who are in perfect health, blood tests provide us with a marker for “normalcy” that we can use as a mode of comparison in the future.
For most cases, you can expect to receive results within the same day of the blood being drawn. More nuanced tests may be taken to outside laboratories. These take about 2 to 3 days to be completed.
